The Definitive Adaptations of Characters, in other words when I mention a character’s name you think of this version of the character and everyone else is just a variation of that version:
And to be clear, definitive adaptation is not necessarily the best adaptation, but there is a lot of overlap.
Starting off we have Batman, the definitive adaptation of Batman is easily the 90s , Bruce Timm, Batman Animated Series batman voiced by the late great Kevin Conroy. While there are many great versions of batman in both live action, and the fact that there were many Batmans before this, Kevin Conroy Batman is the voice you imagine in your head when you think of Batman. Bruce timm Batman is also one of the most complete batman legends that tells his story from start all the way to retirement in the epilogue episode of Justice Unlimited featuring Batman Beyond. It has so many well thought out arcs for the life of Bruce Wayne.
The Definitive Version of Mickey Mouse has to be Renaissance Mickey, That is mid 90s, early 2000s, there are tons of versions of Mickey from SteamBoat willie to Mickey Mouse Club House, but the Mickey Mouse from The Three Musketeers, Fantasia, Mickey and the Beanstalk and other turn of the century Mickey Mouse media is the version of mickey that has become the strongest face of the Disney Brand.
Next we have Sonic, When you think of Sonic the hedgehog, THE definitive Version of Sonic is IDW Modern Sonic, who is canon to the Modern era of games such as Sonic Generations, Sonic Forces, Sonic Frontiers etc. Now I’m not saying that these are the best Sonic Games, because they are not, but Sonic as a Mythos and a legend does revolve around this quote on quote Modern Sonic which is canonically IDW sonic.
Moving on is Spider-Man, in my opinion, I have to say that peak Spider-Man is Tobey Maguire, Sam Raimi Spider-Man, when I think of Spider-Man Tobey Spider-Man is who comes to mind, and all other spider-men after him are just reflections of the impact and bar that he set the tone of. He is pretty much the pioneer of the Modern SuperHero movie genre, and every super hero film after him tries to create the impact that he left.
Lastly we have Optimus Prime, while Micheal Bay Optimus Prime is the most popular, I think the Definitive version of Optimus is his original G1 Incarnation, all Optimus Primes in a way seem to be a vacation of the original G1 Prime front he 1984 Cartoon, and to that extension, voice of Peter Cullen is the voice of Optimus, so any prime that Peter voices is indeed the Prime.
