There’s a spotlight on pro-Israel Democrats after AIPAC’s super PAC, the United Democracy Project, spent $30 million in Michigan ahead of the state’s primary. As demonstrated by the House’s recent vote over funding for Israel, where nearly half of House Democrats voted to cut off aid, the party’s support has clearly shifted—and this could mean who AIPAC decides to donate to will, too. So what does this mean for the future of the Democratic party?

In this episode of What Next with host Mary Harris, Peter Beinart, editor-at-large for Jewish Currents and author of the “Beinart Notebook” Substack, discusses his concern that there will be an “an exodus of some very large American Jewish donors from the Democratic Party.”

“My fear is that what groups like AIPAC will do is they will say, well, the Democratic Party is now the party that represents a threat to the US-Israel relationship, so let’s double down on our support for the Republican Party. And when you’re doubling down on your support for Trump’s Republican Party, you’re basically investing in American authoritarianism.”
