This remastered version of The Day the Earth Froze (1964) is the American cut and dubbed version of the film originally produced as Sampo (1959), which was a Russian-Finnish coproduction. Sampo (1959) was shot in 1.33:1 and 2.35:1 versions simultaneously, and it is the “flat” version that was used for distribution in the US and Germany. This remastered edition was created by using the sound from a 16mm US print and editing a German-language print to match the changes made for the US release.

This version of the film was the one that was further cut and spoofed on Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) in 1992.
