WHAT HAPPENED in the David Wood vs. Andrew Wilson debate on apologetics? I challenged father Peter Heers to defend the Orthodox Church's claims of perpetual doctrinal infallibility and authority based on Decree 2 of the Synod of Jerusalem (1672), but failed to do so but deflected and did not prove his claims. In this livestream, I'll discuss why apologetics matters, and address apologists such as David Wood, GodLogic, and Apostate Prophet, and others. I'll also examine how Protestants should respond to the claims made by Orthodox apologists such as Andrew Wilson and Jay Dyer. Recently, there has been significant discussion surrounding the Orthodox Church's claim to be the one true Church, along with accusations that Protestantism is heretical and that Protestants are not truly Christians. I'll be responding to father Peter Heers' claims by examining a central question: Is the Orthodox Church infallible?
For example, what happens if someone rejects key Orthodox teachings, such as: the perpetual virginity of Mary; the veneration of icons because they believe it is idolatry; the belief that in the Eucharist a person is literally eating Christ's flesh and drinking His blood or the claim that the Orthodox Church is the one true Church? Are such people considered anathema? Are Protestants condemned because they reject these doctrines?
I'll also will be sharing thoughts on the recent discussions and debates between Gavin Ortlund and Jonathan Pageau, Gavin Ortlund and father Stephen De Young, as well as my own debate with Alex Sorin and MadebyJim on the ongoing question of whether Protestants are saved and recognized as Christians if they are not members of the Orthodox Church.
