One of D. W. Griffith’s most powerful and yet underrated Biograph shorts, 1909’s “The Country Doctor” is a rewrite of the classic “trolley question”- there are two groups of people who could die. You can only rescue one. Who would you save if you were placed in a position to do so? This short is also notable for its beautiful pan across the Connecticut countryside at the start and end.
