This session will focus on the legal and economic implications of blockchain and big data.

We will feature work that focuses on:

1. Using a combination of theory and empirics to estimate how data is transformed into knowledge, productivity and profits, and how machine learning alters that process. By developing a method to value data as intangible capital, it will illuminate how machine learning has changed the returns to the scale of firms that use big data.

2. The legal, policy, and regulatory issues affecting catalyzation of key components of the crypto-economy such as the underlying blockchain technologies and smart contract applications.


3. The ways in which blockchain and smart contracts will impact the functioning and regulation of securities markets both domestically and internationally.
