As Link returns to Ikana for the first time, he feels his old friend Zelda reaching out, connecting with him from afar with a mysterious and powerful magic.
Her news is grave: she has discovered the means by which Ganondorf escaped the Sacred Realm. The ancient Cloak of Light wasn't just stolen, it was twisted to utter darkness by his evil hand. He wears the cloak now, and has wrought unimaginable misery – especially upon those who stand up to him.
She warns him that he will need all his courage to continue on this journey, but that he must – the fate not just of Termina, but of the many worlds beyond, is on his shoulders.
But he is not alone. Zelda will continue to guide him, and if he can rescue the remaining Great Fairies, their combined might could be enough to restore the Cloak of Light to its former goodness. Its power is the only thing that can return the Evil King to his spiritual prison…

In the land of Termina, an uneasy peace had settled after the heroic deeds of the young hero, Link, and the miraculous vanquishing of the ominous moon that threatened to destroy the world.
But the winds of fortune were shifting once more, and a dark omen swept across the land from far beyond its borders. The Triforce, a relic of immense power, began to resonate with an evil force, calling out to Link and foretelling of an old and terrible power rising again…
