In the lead up to The Boshin War the 1st and 2nd Choshu Expedition would give a great idea on what the future conflict would hold. The First Choshu Expedition would be a success for the Tokugawa Shogunate. However, the Second Choshu Expedition would be a massive failure for the Shogunate.
Not only would they be forced to retreat but the Shogun Iemochi would pass away.
