While an insignificant photo of cars just parked in a stadium lot, the backstory behind the photo is devastating. The parking lot shown is of Giants Stadium's Commutor lot right outside of New York City. People would often park here and take public transportation into the heart of NYC to avoid the traffic and the higher price to park. This is a common commute but what's different about this photo is that it was taken after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. These are likely the vehicles of victims in those attacks, a sitting reminder of that fatefful day
Giant's Vice President John Mara had said "I just remember seeing those cars there every day, especially those days immediately after because people weren't going into work those first few days. It was obvious to me that those had to belong to people working down there."
There isn't anything clear as to what happened to these cars. It is assumed that they had been returned to the next of kin or put into impoud or some other means of storage. A reddit user talking about this photo made a comment, stating they were apart of a financing portion of General Motors, and said if any leased cars belonged to anybody who perished in 9/11 attacks were found, the entire lease balance was forgiven and the family could keep the car and no repossession efforts would take place.
