I stitched your grief in shrouds of lace
A kiss behind the veil's embrace
A lullaby sung by the flies
Yet still you seek my hollow eyes
You kiss the thorns upon my brow
And call me something rare and pure
I dragged you through the endless night
To see the pain you could endure
I watched you bleed through prayer and prose
A bloom a ruin no one chose
You kept me from those nights alone
And held me on a tarnished throne
But I, a beast of flesh and pain
Could only ever be your bane
I kissed your lips with longing thick enough to make the angels sick
You drag me back with every cry
And every dawn, I watch you die
You carved a chapel from regret
And lined the pews with bones you set
Each sermon cries of love and loss
But bleeds beneath a lover's cross
I'm not a soul that God redeems
I'm not the girl within your dreams
I'm ash and echo, wane and wind
The part of you you left behind
Yet every dusk, you call anew
And bring me back to bury you
Your voice is raw from pleading air
That never promised I'd be there
And still you chant your broken rite
To conjure me again each night
But resurrection has its price
And love, in death, is never nice
You give and give, and come undone
But I can't stay when mourning comes
You built a cage of grief and sin
And asked the dark to lock you in
"The hollow hush you call my name... Is steeped in guilt I'll never tame..."
You bind my soul in poison thread
I court the comfort of the dead
You do not sleep, you simply stay
Because I'll never look away
I wear the loss like sacred wine
And drink you in with every line
Taste the dark I leave behind
And name it proof that love is blind
You tear your chest with phantom touch
And say it's sweet, it hurts too much
You walk through dreams where I decay
And beg I never drift away
But I am fog, and flame, and fault
A wound that sings in burning salt
Still, you return home to me
And promise me you'll never leave
I watched you bleed through prayer and prose
A bloom a ruin no one chose
You kept me from those nights alone
And held me on a tarnished throne
But I, a beast of flesh and pain
Could only ever be your bane
