I originally got into österreich back in middle school, since I was just becoming an anime fan and Tokyo Ghoul was quite popular. Tokyo Ghoul Opening 2 ("Munou" by österreich) absolutely blew my mind!... though I didn't really get it. Over the years, I kept going back to that song and eventually learned to love it. Then once they released sisi, and later Dearly Departed, I was completely hooked.

At this point, I'd consider österreich to be my favorite non-metal band, and "Munou" my favorite song of all time. So when I discovered a year or two ago that the mastermind behind österreich (Kunimitsu Takahashi) was originally in the cabs, I got really excited and started listening.... and of course I didn't quite get it lol. But time's past and I've given them some more listens and now I'm addicted!

I learned "Anschluss" a month or so back and that was really fun! Then about a week ago, I couldn't stop listening to "For Charles Bronson". I had it on repeat like every day haha. So of course I decided to learn it. I had a lot of fun making this cover and adding my own little additions here and there.

But yeah, österreich and the cabs are both hugely important to me! I adore their music and appreciate it greatly! ;-;

RHYTHM GUITARS

Rhythm Guitar L: Amplitube 5 (Noise Gate → 7 Band Graphic → Fender Compressor → Pinnacle Deluxe Overdrive → Compressor → Fender Twin Reverb → 2x12 '57 Custom Twin Amp Cab → Tube Compressor → Parametric EQ) → Logic EQ → Logic Console EQ (Silky)

Rhythm Guitar R: Amplitube 5 (same as Rhythm L, but with the '65 Twin Reverb cab)

I had Amplitube 5 in stereo for both rhythms with a decent amount of room sound in the plugin. I didn't really hard pan them, because I was going for a more natural sound. When it's just the Rhythm R in the beginning, I sent a bit to an aux with Logic Chromaverb, panned left.

LEAD GUITARS

I had a few different lead guitars all based on the same tone:

Archetype: Nolly (only for noise gate lol) → Amplitube 5 (7 Band Graphic → OverScream (TS-1) → Orange Rockerverb 50 → 2x12 PPC 212 Cab)

Lately, I've been sorta moving away from traditional metal tones and the Neural DSP stuff. I do quite like Neural, but I feel like I can make my Tele shine a bit better with Amplitube, and I love all the options! And honestly, there's a harshness I tend to get with the Neural stuff that's hard to get rid of. I don't get that in Amplitube as much, and having good room sounds built in is huge tbh!

I also recorded some real feedback for one of the sections lol, that was fun!

BASS

Amplitube 5 (Noise Gate → Six Band EQ → SVX Compressor → Gallien-Krueger MB 150 S → 1x12 MB 150 S Cab → Black 76 Compressor) → Logic Console EQ (Silky) → Logic Multiband Comp → Logic Compressor → Logic Phat FX (Bass Enhancer Warm 111 Hz, distortion, comp, etc., mixed in at 28%)

Uhhhh, it's a bass tone? lol. I've been using the free Amplitube bass amp for a bit, but now I have the full version I'm able to try all this fancy stuff. I quite like what I came up with!

When I first recorded demos for this cover, I had the bass knob on my bass's built-in EQ set a lot higher. I lowered it at some point and realized that really helped clear out mud!

DRUMS

Superior Drummer 3:

Kick: 20x22" Ayotte Clasic
Snare: 3.5x14" GMS Brass Piccolo
Toms: the Yamaha Beech Custom ones
Cymbals: doesn't really matter lol, just the factory stuff

Didn't really do a lot to the drums tbh. I kinda reduced the panning of the overheads and didn't use a lot of room sound. Main thing I did after SD3 was a Logic Compressor (Vintage FET at 5:1) and a Logic Console EQ (Smooth)

It takes me way less time to get drum sounds with GGD to be honest, but I like being able to get a more unique sound SD3.
