the primary element of this video is an art featuring my oc the brocken spectre as he dances carefree, drawn as a ghostly white outline mid-prance. his eyes are closed, arms out for balance, and whiskers twirling themselves into spirals near the ground. the backdrop is an edited screenshot of the intro to the raccoon lagoon level from 2018’s mobile game of the year donut county, a piece packed with pleasantries made by ben esposito and music by daniel koestner. the most striking song from donut county’s soundtrack to me is the only one that has lyrics. titled bird of paradise, it plays on a radio in the level coco’s house as he dozes off on a lawnchair in the front yard. in the art, overlayed onto the screenshot of raccoon lagoon’s castle tower, is a picture of the bird of paradise flower, Strelitzia reginae. the composition was made april 28, 2026, at 3:53pm, and completed in just 23 minutes in a car sitting in a grocery store parking lot under a cloudy sky.
this song alone has inspired daniel koestner to become brocken’s voiceclaim, attaching him warmly to a game i hold highly. in singing, it’s soft and flows delicately between verses. there are not many songs of daniel’s where he sings, infact there is only one other. but that is a project for another day.

this july, i went to disneyland in california, and in the long commute to the park there were so many bird of paradise flowers. i’d never seen one up close before. neither had my systemmate brocken either, so it became our little treat between visits to the park. after spontaneously putting together my last video, i had the idea for this project: a simple scrolling slideshow overlayed with brocken’s dancing figure to a snippet of the song bird of paradise.
i had no idea all of it would be done in one night, however, with me sat in my hotel room’s bed watching it evolve by my hands over the course of 2 hours.

in the process of making this, a few things occurred to me. the first is that it’s easier to add a copious amount of emojis to an album’s title in order to consistently find the album in the mess that is capcut reordering the positions of photo albums (not even by date or alphabetical order) when looking to pull from one gallery specifically for media. the second is that this art piece has really come full circle. the castle as disneyland (and even the fireworks shown in that level’s intro cutscene), the bird of paradise flowers, daniel koestner as brocken’s voiceclaim, the actual brocken spectre phenomenon having been visible from the planeride to cali, the setting of a high altitude where brocken’s story takes place, his relationship with clouds, even the full circled-ness of everything here AS rainworld’s cycle itself. all of it. it was a spiritual experience flying to cali with brocken now as a systemmate, and a spiritual experience now making this. this is a tribute to brocken, my baby who draws from so many things i hold dear. he, as a person, is everything in this video. this is him. this is who he is.
…a secret third thing i liked about this video’s editing process is that it’s a bit inconsistent with it’s framing, specifically for the last two videos in this project (clouds from plane window, and the fireworks). brocken is breaking out of the aspect ratio of the video as it plays in the background. just as a signature me thing. heheheh…
