In the Autumn of 1940 Britain faced the very real possibility of a German invasion. To combat this they lined the coast with defences such as bunkers, minefield and anti-tank weapons. But one of the most fearsome and least talked about defences involved fire. The flame barrage was a series of pipes which ran from the land into the ocean. They were filled with flammable liquid then ignited causing a wall of fire on the surface of the water. In today's video we talk about the crazy British flame defences of World War Two.
