Maxwell (famous for Maxwell's equations & more) wrote this little ditty about the British Association of the Advancement of Science which he called "The British Ass" (ass as in donkey, not behind, but still funny IMHO).

How did Joseph Fraunhofer, a poor glassmaker, get saved from poverty by a prince and then discover spectroscopy (Fraunhofer lines), single slit diffraction AND the diffraction grating? I use primary sources to discover the background and the physics of this epoch making discovery.
