Why did Faraday build his cage back in 1837? This deep dive goes from Benjamin Franklin to Coulomb in the 1700s to the development of radio waves and the Tesla coil. Then I go even further to how the Faraday cage helped JJ Thomson to discover the electron and how it is used to save us from microwaves, EMPs and electronic snooping.

How did Joseph Fraunhofer, a poor glassmaker, get saved from poverty by a prince and then discover spectroscopy (Fraunhofer lines), single slit diffraction AND the diffraction grating? I use primary sources to discover the background and the physics of this epoch making discovery.
