How much should you water your garden? One inch per week — including rain. For every 10 degrees above 60°F, add half an inch. A tuna can in the garden tells you when you've hit your target.

The biggest mistake: shallow, frequent watering instead of deep, infrequent soaking. Water deeply to 6–8 inches, then let the top 2 inches dry out before watering again. Check at 2-inch depth with your finger — if it's dry, water. If it's moist, wait.
