On 15th Sept I climbed over 25m up a beautiful beech tree in the Surrey hills, UK to set up camp for the night and draw a sketch of an Orangutan. The purpose was to bring awareness to the plight of these gentle great apes of the trees. They face the serious threat of deforestation everyday due to the Palm Oil industry with Palm Oil found in so many of our household products and food daily. There are an estimated 100,000 Orangutans in the wild but face a serious decline over the next 7 years to as few as only 45,000. They are already on the critically endangered list and we have to ALL act now if we are to reserve this beautiful and close relative of ours. Boycotting as many Palm Oil products is a start and something we can all do, the rest will need serious work with charities and higher levels of government intervention, the thing is we need to do something not just for the survival of the orangutan but the survival of us as a human race. Forests are being destroyed at an enormous rate every hour and we need them for our very oxygen we breath. No forests no Orangutans and no us....
