Each and every painting and drawing I do starts with some research and my photography, it's a vital and necessary part of what I call 'from the field to the easel'. It allows me to study and get to know the animal before undertaking any artwork and I hope gives an authentically to every painting and drawing I do. I like to tell a story behind each artwork and to be honest I love spending time in nature it's the greatest 'perk' of my job.
I have been photographing these seals for over 12 years now and visit them regularly which in turn has helped me understand their behaviours and characteristics, I hope you enjoy this quick edit as much as I enjoyed creating it :)
