The allied armies had finally fought their way across France, as the Germans had conducted an orderly retreat back to the borders, shorting their supply lines and again preparing the thousands of bunkers of the West Wall. Thousands of German soldiers were now getting installed in the forts constructed for this very occasion.
And when Model learned the Americans was intending to fight their way through the Hrtgen forest he rejoiced, he knew here he could hold the line.
So what happened and what is still there, I am going through the fields of battle, the bunkers, forts ,ruins as I want to show you where the battle took place and the conditions as I talk you though the events. Also we are hiking up Hill 400, and the old fortress ruins that changed hands several times.
