Money is never neutral. While we use it to trade and store value, governments use it as a political tool — and right now, the nature of money is shifting fast.
For most of history, money meant gold. In the twentieth century, the gold standard collapsed and the era of “fiat” money began — government-issued currency backed only by public trust. The system seemed stable for decades, but strains are now visible.
In this session, Dominic Frisby — author of Bitcoin: The Future of Money? and The Secret History of Gold — discusses the battle over money with Rob Lyons - science and technology director, Academy of Ideas; convenor, AoI Economy Forum and author of Panic on a Plate.
