In 1927, Bath, Michigan became the site of America’s deadliest school massacre. The Bath School Disaster claimed the lives of 38 children and 6 adults, a tragedy largely forgotten in U.S. history.
As a lifelong Michigander, I was shocked to learn about this devastating event so close to home. In this video, I’ll share what happened on May 18, 1927, explore who Andrew Kehoe was, how the community of Bath endured unimaginable loss, and why this story has faded from public memory.
We’ll visit the Bath memorials and cemetery, reflect on the resilience of the survivors, and remember the children who never came home from school. This isn’t a story about sensational details—it’s about honoring the victims, recognizing the evil that existed then and still exists today, and making sure the Bath School Massacre is never forgotten again.
