"And if you remove the need of the fence, you remove the need of the tool."
I composed this MIDI sometime in December 2023 over the course of a couple weeks after a failed attempt to start on Bitter Dream Episode 3 that resulted in me starting over on Map 7 and its MIDI. I wanted the song to contain an air of mystery and apprehension to it, as well as a pulse of determination, and bit of mournfulness. It also contains a quick reference to Map 1 & 4's MIDIs just at the end, to hopefully remind you of where you came from.
In Map 7, you "arrive" at this anti-place, a space between worlds, utterly lost and as bewildered as you've ever been on the journey. The map opens slowly, giving you time to become curious about what's happening and where you are. When combat begins, it springs wide open in an instant, leaving you with a mad scramble to get your bearings and survive against a substantial ambush. Ultimately, I think the MIDI captured the vibe I was going for, and I made sure it had an extended downbeat moment to capture when the carnage finally stops and you have a moment to reflect on what's happened so far.

![Tannhauser Gate Gone Dark [original MIDI] - Doom 2 in City Only Map 08 - Crypto Crash
This is the MIDI I wrote for my D2ICO submission, Crypto Crash. Its a futuristic city map where you fight demons on the upper levels of a skyscraper district or something with lots of neon in the background. Inspired by everything.
