‘The Art of Climate Change’ Trinity Elective explores how film, literature, photography, music, performance, and visual culture shape our understanding of climate change and influence responses to the climate crisis. In this Elective, you will learn how the arts interpret environmental challenges and communicate ideas about sustainability, drawing on perspectives from ecocriticism, environmental aesthetics, and climate communication. Through discussion-led classes, critical analysis, and creative experimentation, you will explore how different artistic forms engage audiences and inspire action. You will work collaboratively with students from a range of disciplines on a hands-on ‘Living Lab’ project, designing an arts-based response to a real sustainability challenge on or near campus. Practical activities include analysing films, texts, artworks, and performances, creating reflective ePortfolio entries, and developing a creative group project. Trinity Electives are stand-alone 5 ECTS modules outside of students’ core disciplines.

Speaker: Dr Jonathan Hodgers, School of Creative Arts.
