Here's a different opening title sequence for the long-running Archie franchise - this one seemed to come from The Archie Show, although the live-action mixed with animated elements is almost the same as the opening for Archie's Funhouse seen here: youtu.be/vLT6gM75Fv0

What it appears to be is the lost syndication opening to the 104 episodes from various Archie series that they mixed-up for the package. The Archies syndication package used the end credits from the original shows but the music from the originals was dubbed over - you can hear another example in the first bumper featured in this clip: youtu.be/oF_u9u94pCo

Originally, The Archie Show ran on the CBS Network from 1968 to 1969 (the music arrangement was along the lines of such hits as 1969's "Sugar, Sugar"), and led to a number of spin-offs which would be sliced and diced in syndication for years. Though Chicago's own WGN Channel 9 aired Archie and his gang for a number of years, this particular opening example was recorded off of WREG Channel 3 in Memphis, TN and found on a Betamax tape recording.

It is followed by the first 30 seconds of "Tragic Magic," an installment of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch (S02E25, which was originally broadcast on November 28th 1970); the title character was voiced by Jane Webb.

Archie's voice doing the proto "rapping" in the opening is by Dal McKennon.

This aired on local Memphis TV on Saturday, May 12th 1979 at 6:30am.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!
