Here's the answer to the question we considered yesterday... why would a door on this ferry ship have *two* closer mechanisms? The reason: one of these, in addition to be a closer, is also a power operator. There are many fire screen doors on these boats, and in certain parts of the ship there is a desire for the crew to be able to operate some doors (both closing them and also opening them) from remote locations. So that's what you see here: a door that can be power-driven by remote control, but which will still close and latch securely in the event that power fails completely. There you go! 👍😁👍
I've known Marc Tobias for a long time and been a happy owner of Locks, Safes, and Security (including the electronic version of that resource, which is really something!) for ages. I am quite impressed with the direction he has opted to go with his latest book, though. The focus on *why* security flaws happen and the ramifications (beyond merely the door) that percolate through the legal system and society at large are a fascinating and often overlooked part of how we share lessons in our industry.
