The ignition coil in a tiny 4-stroke petrol lawnmower is essential for creating the spark required to light the fuel-air combination in the combustion chamber of the engine. Usually, there are two sets of windings in this coil: the primary winding and the secondary winding. A high voltage is produced in the secondary winding when the engine is started by the flywheel-mounted magnet that is flowing through the ignition coil and creating a fluctuating magnetic field.

After passing through the distributor, this voltage is applied to the spark plug, where it ignites the compressed fuel-air combination and starts the power stroke by arcing across the spark plug gap. The ignition coil provides dependable ignition through the processes of electromagnetic induction and voltage amplification, which are essential for the lawnmower engine to operate properly.
