Linda Moulton Howe has spent months following one symbol backwards. The Black Sun - twelve radial arms, each one bending through two ninety-degree angles - shows up in Mesopotamia long before anyone in the twentieth century reached back and took it. In this conversation she lays out what a military witness she calls 'Spartan One' says he found carved on the inside of a sealed installation: basalt doors twenty-three feet high and eighteen feet thick that swung open at the touch of a single index finger, and behind them a wall carrying the Black Sun above a star map.
That star map is where the story stops being folklore. The pattern was fed through a computer, produced three focal points, and became a Hubble project to check whether those points corresponded to anything real.
