This year the 2024 Original Mountain Marathon, known as the OMM, took place in Glen Artney, Southern Highlands, Scotland. This extreme backpacking event involves either hiking or fell running with a fully loaded backpack for 2 days. At the end of day one all participants choose a wild camping spot to spend the night.
This is a self supporting event, so you need to take all your hiking and camping gear with you. Only water and toilets are provided at the mid way point.
At the start, the two person teams are given a map, either a Score Course or Line Course Map. The Score Course involves the team choosing which check-in locations to find (time limited) and the Line Course involves completing a set route (no time limit).

On Day 1, I took on the Medium Score course. Unfortunately, the first day was a disaster. I was ill during the night, it took forever to find our first station, the weather and terrain was challenging, and then my team mate went home at the end of the day.
Fortunately, I was able to continue with another person, Andy, whose partner had abandoned due to injury. This meant on Day 2, we changed routes to the Linear Route B course. A big thanks to the organisers for assisting with this as they could have easily sent me home!
