Day 5
Locations: The Veldt, Serpent Trench, Nikeah, South Figaro, Figaro Castle, Jidoor, Zozo
Steps Taken: 12,153
Playtime: 30 minutes
Total Playtime: 5:09
Characters: Shadow (L6) Gau (L7) Edgar (L6) Locke (L5)
So, due to me having an insane super flu, I could only barely manage 30 minutes. My movie file desynced in Zozo for some reason after I'd stolen I think 4 Atlas Armlets and 1 pair of Goggles and Dragoon Boots (both are good for GP). I can buy Dragoon Boots later if I felt like making anyone a Dragoon, but the Magitek Factory has some too. I spent most of my time walking around Zozo farming steals, and apparently, Shadow leading the party means he can never actually leave with the 1/16 chance. Too bad I can't take him to Vector, you can recruit him again but he'll ditch at the Opera House.
Left the Veldt after having got the rages I'd wanted. I had initially started making a new movie file (I'd rather not play while AVI recording because I'll get no sound) and got Primordite I think after the Doberman fight on the Veldt. That uses Numb Blade which casts stop, which may have been really handy for all I know when it came to problematic enemies or bosses. So, it's too bad on my main movie file, I didn't get 2 Veldt encounters, since I probably still would've leaped just because I found new enemies and didn't know what rages they'd have. It was paired with Exocite, I think.
Also, I did basically confirm looking at some guides that because I didn't encounter Heavy Armor in South Figaro with Locke and escape, it's nearly impossible to get Aspik's Giga Volt. South Figaro was the only option I had, because I'd otherwise have needed to encounter one during the big battle in Narshe, which would've been a huge problem and I'd end up with party members unable to defend themselves. You have to go straight for Kefka, there isn't much time until some soldiers reach the others.
So, that's unfortunate. It doesn't mean it's impossible to save and reset repeatedly until I land on Aspik, but I don't know if it'll be worth it after the Magitek Factory, where you're usually forced to gain a level or 2. Without incredible luck, you can't minimize the experience, but I think you'll always gain 2 levels. I did find some strategies to help manipulate only finding the small Magna Roaders that give less experience. Anyway, this wasn't an eventful day. Did stock up on some healing items with Edgar as the leader of the party.
Edgar and Sabin both have to lead for you to get 50% off, which isn't made too clear considering the merchant still talks to you as if selling you these items is wrong. Once I rode over to Jidoor, I grabbed 2 more Ninja Suits for Locke and Shadow. I then went over to grab another Chocobo to take to Zozo, but was low on funds, so back to the shop to sell a few tonics... Oh, I made sure to put a Wall Ring on Shadow since I totally forgot to go back and recruit Celes for her Runic, which would've had me replacing probably Edgar, despite his usefulness. Gau is a little too useful, and Locke with the Sneak Glove has a better chance of scoring some goods from the enemies here which tend to have good relics or healing items. Having the Thief Knife on Shadow helps, since I now have 2 members who can steal. Locke has the Guardian equipped so that he can block with it similar to the Thief Knife.
Running into a lone Slam Dancer is extremely dangerous, even at a fair level which is why I'd wanted to bring Celes. A multi-targeted level 2 elemental spell will destroy you. If it's with Harvesters, you're safe until they're dead. I'm lucky I got a preemptive attack when I encountered a lone one on my way out from getting the Chainsaw. The Wall Ring would've at least meant one of my members will survive, and I have a good amount of Fenix Downs. The lone encounter is one I don't typically get that much, I'm just glad I didn't sell the Wall Ring.
It was really, really tough just playing for a half hour, but at least I got some good steals. Need to prepare for day 6 and finishing Zozo despite being sicker and in a lot more pain today. This was already a bit challenging for me, this makes it so much worse lol. I didn't realize there was actually a "super flu" going around, because that's sure what I have. It's called Subclade K, H3N2 Influenza A, and is the worst flu I've ever had in my life. I'd meant to get my flu shot, but apparently it has minimal effectiveness against this, as it's a pretty new flu mutation.
Day 3 Highlights
4:23: Funny scene trying to re-enter South Figaro
8:30: Chocobo ride to Jidoor
11:39: Chocobo ride to Zozo
12:48: Getting the Chainsaw in Zozo
15:24: End of Day 5
Again, not much happened, I just wandered around until 30 minutes had passed because that's all I was capable of doing. Although I'm sicker today, some of the horrible body aches have at least improved.
