Day 11
Locations: Vector, Banquet Hall
Steps Taken: 23,323
Playtime: 1:07 (realistically about 1:30)
Total Playtime: 11:03
Characters: Gau (L15) Edgar (L15) Locke (L15) Terra (L15) Cyan (L15) Setzer (L15) Sabin (L15)

Used new encoding settings for 60fps and HD, looks nice! The rest should from now on. This wasn't a very eventful day since I just spent time getting Sabin, Cyan and Setzer to level 15. Sabin had some trouble at first without someone else, so I kept adding someone to the party that weren't Locke or Terra until they were within leveling up, then I'd switch out. This is why I was a bit close to leveling up while talking to the soldiers. When everyone was at 15, I grabbed a Chocobo from the woods and rode over to Vector. So, why does it say I realistically played for 1:30 today? Well, that's because the first party I brought to Vector were too close to leveling up, so when I talked to the soldiers, I simply ran from the ones that wanted to battle, minus the Special Forces which after winning, Gau needed 2 experience points to level up. I thought, PHEW! That was close, but... running from those battles is where the problem lies.

You run away and you get a glitchy green flash, almost like you hit a recovery spring. I thought that was a bit strange looking, mostly I just thought "that was a pretty cool glitchy flash." I've never even tried escaping one of these before, but I figured it still counted. Nope! The game lies when it says you talked to that soldier and you don't get the Tintinibar. Hell, you don't even get the Charm Bangle for answering Gestahl's questions perfectly. Now, I've talked to all 24 guys forever now, I was still 13 when I was able to do that and I'm about to be 32. I've known the perfect answers since I was 14 and have never gotten them wrong since. So, I knew something was very wrong here. Fighting the Special Forces is required as part of getting the Charm Bangle as well, so I didn't do anything wrong. I'm not sure if you normally can't get the Charm Bangle if you didn't talk to 24 soldiers, but it's still weird. Glitchy green flash or not, it said I'd talked to them, but I guess that green flash is really cueing the game like "didn't fight battle, do not count."

This bug would be present in the PS1 and possibly GBA version as well. Pixel Remaster likely makes it so you can't escape, but if it happened there that would be quite interesting. Anyway, enough about this bug. I got my group up to 15 and headed toward Vector, now in flames from the Espers total freakout. Suddenly, Banon and the rest of the Returners are all here, acting... suspicious. "It was like this when we got here," said Arvis. In fact, HOW are you guys even here? It took getting Celes kidnapped to basically hijack an airship to get here. There're no other airships so apparently, they found a Golden Chocobo or something. Taking a boat wouldn't have been possible considering the only open port was in Nikeah and you had to take the Serpant Trench to get there. They couldn't have taken a boat from South Figaro, because the soldiers are only removed from there if you talk to enough soldiers in Vector.

There's a bit of a plot issue I never even thought about, interesting. Anyway, they spawn from nowhere all confused, everything's on fire and I'm brought to Gestahl, who seemingly is ending the war thanks to being convinced by Cid, aka Sir Banana Raincoat. Definitely sounds like I can trust Gestahl, if he says it's over, it has to be. So, I talked to all 24 soldiers PROPERLY this time and before the banquet, paid Kefka a visit in jail. He seems a little nonchalant about it, but I'm sure it's all fine. Had my banquet with the Emperor, answering his questions perfectly and getting that A+ proper this time. The first time around, I almost just said screw it, I don't need the relics but wanted them and my pride felt a little torn, so I redid it.

It's still a bit strange to me how everyone is so critical of Gestahl's motives but don't really question how insane an idea it is to have Terra go round about a bunch of Espers like nothing could go wrong. Sure, make the girl you kidnapped whose mother you killed work for you. If anyone were smart, they'd just not trust Gestahl at all. General Leo is at least a decent guy, so he should hopefully end up joining our party should anything go wrong. Anyway, I went into the cafe after I was done, aka the pub in most releases. Gau remarks that it "smells like parents' house" there... On the GBA version, he says it smells like his father's house. How he knows that, I have no idea considering his father threw him to the Veldt as a newborn, but interesting little tidbit. Afterwards, I left Vector, saved and that wraps up the overall uneventful Day 10.
