As soon as we got to the foot, there was a Chinese-looking temple in front of us.
When we went inside, the walls for adorned with art of various scenes out of what looked like opera to us.
Everyone was using musical instruments at great lengths to keep the music working.
The orchestras were much smaller and the sets were minimally decorated.
What is inside this repertoire?
This is my second time arranging An's theme from Mystical Power Plant (the first was my PC-98 remix of the song). I decided to try something different. With the JV-880's Asia Expansion, I thought to myself if I could replicate authentic Beijing opera music with it. It happened to work, though I did include a few extra instruments (such as the erhu chord progressions and percussion track) for color. Given that I'm a composer from the Western Hemisphere, I had little familiarity with the genre, and some research had to go in before I could do this arrangement.
This is the first Touhou-style song I've arranged to not use any instruments from the SD-90. ZUN never used the JV-880 or its expansions in any of his compositions, so it might not count as an authentic Touhou-style song. It however does because some of the instruments, namely the percussion samples from this expansion, were also used in the SD-90!
"Feimei" is actually the Chinese transcription for Tobiume by the way. If An Yaezaki married a Chinese man, she would have to change her name to Ba Xing.
