Last week, we flew over 2,000 kilometers from Qingdao, China's easternmost coastal city, to Kula Kangri, China's westernmost Tibetan plateau. From an average altitude of less than 100 meters, we ascended to Kula Kangri, one of the most important peaks on the central ridge of the Himalayas, with an average altitude of over 5,000 meters—one of the four sacred mountains in Tibetan tradition.
I've always lived in a coastal city. This was our team's fifth trip to Tibet, and then we rented a car and spent six hours climbing towards the world's highest altitude mountain. Reaching the thin air of the plateau in a short time, our team members underwent a severe test; altitude sickness constantly impacted our bodies.
Everyone noticed that I spoke slowly; I had to quickly regulate my breathing to stay awake. (To ensure a successful launch of our three new products in Europe next February, our team tested them in various geographical environments and climates across China, including low-altitude coastal areas, high-altitude plateaus, monsoon regions, arid zones, forests, grasslands, wetlands, and lakes. In addition to our company team, we also sent samples to professional outdoor enthusiasts who provided feedback on their experiences.) The inner's round hook can be used to attach trekking poles, so both the fly and inner can be used independently.
Besides this, the most frequent comment was: keep the fly as close to the ground as possible. The wind is strong in the UK, and excessive ground clearance allows wind to get in, making the tent unstable and causing it to feel colder. Rain will also get in, wetting shoes and gear. However, in hot weather, a certain ground clearance improves ventilation, reduces internal heat, and minimizes condensation, especially effective when used by two people.
Therefore, I designed a snow skirt solution. The outward-sloping snow skirt expands the entrance area and provides better wind and rain protection. Users can unfold or fold it up depending on the weather conditions. When folded up, it allows for better ventilation, which I believe is the best solution.
The entire tent uses a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 stakes to achieve the same wind resistance as a freestanding tent.
