This is a followup to my "Infinite TST is bad for Journey mode" video: youtube.com/watch?v=ZRGYORBYPzQ
I spent many hours trying to make "Infinite TST" work (e.g. setting up a Tetris above the T-Spin Triples). Then I switched to "freestyle" (do some improvised T-Spin Doubles, otherwise Tetrises) and scored 30k more points after just a few attempts, and that despite of missing piece colors and maxed visual effects. Note that I am good at Infinite TST but average at best with freestyle. So, it's save to say that freestyle works much better in Journey mode.
You should try to do something like this: Leave a column empty in the middle and stack some T-Spins above it. After a while, you have a Tetris prepared. Don't execute the Tetris yet - just continue with T-Spin Doubles until a quarter of the Zone meter is filled. Then stack the Tetris column up to at least height 8 and also try to fill the sides to the very top. Then start the zone and score 2 Tetrises. All lines cleared during the Zone will not count towards the level's line goal and once you've cleared 8 lines in the Zone, you earn points twice as fast (the second Tetris already scores twice as many points as the first Tetris). Finish the Zone with a further Tetris, T-Spin Double or a combo.
You can also try to leave a column empty on the side (instead of the middle). I did this a few times after building a T-Spin Triple tower. This makes the execution of T-Spin Doubles harder but works better under high gravity.
