Friday was Tet Doan Ngo- the mid-summer point in the Vietnamese calendar and a day for rituals to ward off the pests of the summer heat. There's plenty of summer heat in Hanoi right now too. The rituals are rooted in traditional village life and date back centuries. I managed to get a little taste of Tet Doan Ngo in Hanoi with a young architect and owner of Kofi cafe, Mr Cao Trung Hieu. We talked about how these traditions are holding in modern life over a glass of ruou nep - a traditional sticky rice liquor consumed specially on this day.
