I will give an overview of LISA's unprecedented potential to perform tests of the nature of compact objects and to search for exotic alternatives to black holes. This includes: ringdown tests, GW echoes, inspiral tests of the multipolar structure of supermassive objects, tests of the Kerr bound on the spin with EMRIs, tidal effects.
