Gelato bars are popping up everywhere in the UK, but what exactly is gelato? Isn't it just a posh name for ice cream? To find out, Kate heads to Italy, where a visit to the oldest gelato parlour in Rome reveals some important differences. Kate also meets a gelato flavourist, dubbed the Heston Blumenthal of the ice cream world, who shows her the surprising reason Italian gelato is famed for its staggering range of flavours.
Jimmy's in Mauritius, wondering what the difference is between white and dark rum. Are they made from different ingredients? A trip to one of the island's main distilleries helps Jimmy uncover the answer. Back on home soil, he learns where the term 'proof' originally came from… the answer is explosive, and it nearly blows Jimmy away!
And Matt gets stuck into a minty mystery: just why does his mouth go cold when sucking on a mint? To find the answer, he heads to a traditional sweet factory in Blackburn, full of mouthwatering treats… and an unexpected encounter with a very hot chilli.
