In my previous video, I tested the ExtremeNetworks WS-AP3825i with the AsiaRF AW7916-NPD WiFi 6E module on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, achieving up to 800 Mbps throughput, of course by using OpenWrt.

In this video, I take it one step further by attempting to enable and test the 6GHz band.

Using OpenWrt, most configurations had to be done manually via /etc/config/wireless due to current LuCI limitations. Despite multiple attempts, including setting option band '6g', enabling the enable_6ghz driver parameter, and broadcasting from 2 radios, the 6GHz SSID remained disabled or invisible to client devices like the Intel AX210 WiFi 6E and iPhone 15.

Video timeline:
00:00 - Introduction
00:50 - 1st Attempt - option band '6g'
01:39 - 2nd Attempt - enable_6ghz=1 (runtime)
02:22 - 3rd Attempt - enable_6ghz=1 (permanent)
02:42 - 4th Attempt - Almost success
03:43 - Last Attempt - Same SSID for 2.4GHz and 6GHz

If you have any suggestions or workarounds, feel free to share them in the comments.

Stay tuned for the next video, where I’ll test the AW7916-NPD on an x86 machine to evaluate its full throughput potential.

Thanks for watching and see you in the next video.
