I sat in a Tesla Model Y in the Philippines with Abby's cousin and her son. It got funny fast.
Joy took delivery of a white Model Y Premium RWD in Manila in May. First EV the family has ever owned, after years of gas and diesel.
The best part isn't the car. Her son Noah has his own driver profile with Autosteer switched on, and partway through this he admits, out loud, in front of his mother, exactly what happened the day he tried it on the road. She has notes. Watch her face.
There's real information in here too. Joy almost bought a BYD, but the dealer couldn't answer her questions and still wanted ₱5,000 up front to put her 16th in line. A US referral code worked on her Philippine order and saved her about ₱13,000, which nobody advertises. And Philippine cars still have Autosteer, which Tesla pulled from new US and Canadian orders in January.
Joy is also an event planner. When she posted that they'd bought their first EV, one of her brides commented that it would make a good bridal car. Three bookings later, the daily driver has a side job.
