After the extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period, the niche of large land predators, as it is not surprising, was occupied by giant birds from the Fororakos family. These flightless monsters have risen to the top of the food chain in both the Americas. They were carnivorous birds, some of which were larger than modern ostriches. They had strong legs and a powerful beak. The blow of such a weapon caused serious wounds or stunned the victim. Despite the subsequent development of mammals, many of them survived until the appearance of the first people in these parts. Primitive hunters destroyed not only many species of herbivores, but also influenced the extinction of predators. Some scientists believe that it was people who put the final point in the history of the development of these unusual predators.
