The largest rodent in the history of our planet is considered to be a giant beaver that lived in North America and became extinct about ten thousand years ago due to the onset of global warming. The total length of his body was approximately 2.7 meters, and this giant weighed about 125 kilograms. Isotope analysis of the fossilized remains of this animal showed that its diet is strongly from that of modern beavers, which existed in parallel with their larger cousin. The giant beaver ate mainly aquatic plants and most likely did not build dams. The establishment of an arid climate led to a reduction in its food supply. And this rodent, unlike its more adapted counterparts, could not survive this.
