This Sky News reported the latest official figures on asylum accommodation in the UK. At the end of June 2026 there were 16,021 asylum seekers in hotels, down from 32,041 a year earlier. That is the lowest level since these figures began in 2022, and far below the September 2023 peak of just over 56,000. Fewer than 160 hotels remain in use, down from a peak of around 400.The same data shows:
- Small boat arrivals down 23% year-on-year
- Asylum applications down about 21% to roughly 86,000
- People waiting for an initial decision down to around 40,000
- Overall asylum support down 12%, while dispersal housing (shared houses / HMOs) rose slightly
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the government is “restoring control at our border and fairness to the migration system,” while pledging to end hotel use by the end of this Parliament.
Bad news for Nigel Farage of Reform UK, and Rupert Lowe of Restore Britain.
