Tennis has a gambling problem. Now the third-most bet on sport, behind football and horse racing, tennis holds a series of partnerships with the gambling world.

In 2020, the ATP ended a two-year ban on men's tennis tournaments signing deals with sports betting and fantasy firms - action initially taken after advice from the Tennis Integrity Unit following a string of match-fixing incidents.

Tournaments have since wasted little time in striking fresh deals, with Betway becoming the official title partner of the Miami Open. The International Tennis Federation also reinstated a deal with Betway for the Davis Cup.

The women's game has seen similar moves. The WTA has teamed up with US sportsbook company FanDuel while agreeing to a six-year deal with Stats Perform to enhance their in-play betting options.

The surge of popularity of tennis betting is, in part, down to these in-play betting options.

But are the respective tours and federations shirking their responsibilities as guardians of tennis? And is the integrity of the sport risked by enabling a practice that also damages players' mental health? And what of the purity of teenis' brand as it seek to engage a younger audience?
