This tennis ball cannon is mounted on a wheeled cart that allows it to move backwards as a tennis ball is fired out the barrel. The speed of the ball can vary greatly from one try to the next. The muzzle velocity of the ball can be as high as 43 meters per second or about 96 miles per hour while the cannon is much slower only reaching 6 meters per second or about 14 miles an hour.
