From the very beginning God created man to dwell with him. His work is to bring us back home to Him. Moses sees the heavenly temple in the mount. God gives them a mobile, heavenly temple to carry around. He does this by a symbolic Eden like structure in the form of a mobile tent, a mobile little piece of heaven, a mobile temple. This is not the relationship that God wants or that he will allow to last forever, but a type and shadow of the relationship that is coming. Jesus fulfilled the purpose of the Temple by both laying down his life as our great High Priest and becoming the sacrifice Himself - the Lamb of God. Now we are called the temple. Living stones built up a spiritual house. We are the Temple. God wants to dwell in us such as the holy of holies. As a body of believers. A holy priesthood.
