Jesus appeared to the inhabitants of America after His death and resurrection. He spent time ministering to them, teaching them, and calling disciples to carry on the work when He left. Only 200 years passed from that time when there began to be a falling away from the truth. It is the pattern of men. They receive light and truth, respond and live accordingly, and are blessed. For a time. There is a word that is used many times in the Book of Mormon. It is "dwindle". It is pointed out how mankind dwindles in unbelief. It is because of iniquity and also because of the traditions of the fathers. The church has the ability to have a very strong hold over it's people when it enters into unrighteousness as will be pointed out in this episode. It is important for a person to vale truth and the Word of God over the traditions they are living with and have been taught and accepted. It takes a honest heart and a response to the Holy Spirit to see the light and have the veil removed from the spiritual eyes. It is an awakening.
