Amid the rise of deepfake online sexual crimes as a serious social problem here, the South Korean media regulator had its first face-to-face meeting with Telegram last week.
Telegram reportedly pledged to cooperate in removing illegal content.

The encrypted messaging app Telegram, where numerous chat rooms suspected of creating and distributing deepfake sexual content have been discovered recently in South Korea, has pledged zero tolerance for such deepfake criminal pornography.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced on Monday that it had its first face-to-face meeting with Telegram on Friday, although it did not specify the location or participants.
According to the commission, Telegram stated that it understands the issue of deepfake sex crimes in South Korea, adding that the platform will respond firmly to address the problem.
"In addition to digital sex crimes, Telegram also pledged to cooperate on addressing other illegal content on the platform, such as pornography, prostitution, drugs and gambling."
Telegram also agreed to take active measures against illegal content on its platform when requested by the commission, which has exclusive authority over content review and legality in the country.
In addition to the existing hotline, a new hotline will be set up between the commission and Telegram to speed up responses to content violations.
The KCSC positively assessed the first meeting, expecting illegal content to be removed more swiftly.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education reported on Monday that a total of 799 students from elementary to high school, along with 31 teachers, have fallen victim to deepfake videos this year.
