Miniaturization helped us to transform the room sized computers of our past into tiny computers that fit into the palm of our hand and are even so much more powerful now 📱.
What if you could also miniaturize a chemistry or biology lab?🔬🤔
That’s one of the tasks of the scientists working on microfluidic chips. While we handle large volumes of expensive💸 chemical and biological substances with pipettes in the “macrofluidic” lab⚗️, a microfluidic chip can do the handling of these substances very precisely in tiny volumes to not only safe money, but come up with totally new experimental concepts👩🏽‍🔬 to gain new insights💡.
Two weeks ago we showed you how to prepare a sandwich chip containing cell traps and donut valves 🍩 (click here for the video➡️ bit.ly/2pMs7co). Today we show you how this chip is used to trap “artificial cells” and observe how their fluorescence signals change over time.
Many thanks to Ariane Stucki of the Bioanalytics group for demonstrating the chip!

Have a nice Thursday! 👋🏽
