On 13 February, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute partnered with the High Commission of Canada in Australia, to deliver the public event 'Tech and Trust: Safeguarding AI for Economic and Security Progress', exploring the intersection between AI and geosecurity.

Countries vary widely in their readiness for AI—from their ethical frameworks and data management practices to their investment in infrastructure, all of which are critical foundations to build competitive companies and make AI-enabled technology accessible and trustworthy to their citizens. As growing middle-powers, Australia and Canada have responsibilities in aiding the design and uptake of this emerging technology with like-minded partners, while ensuring their own responsible governance.

ASPI’s Director of Strategic Communications David Wroe, was joined by Canada’s Deputy Secretary for Artificial Intelligence to the Cabinet Dr Mark Schaan and Microsoft ANZ’s National Technology Officer Sarah Carney, to discuss the international trends associated with AI, including; privacy, governance, responsible usage and ethics.
