- Change Your Approach: Resist the urge "to just tell learners all the things you think they should know"
- Ask Inspired Questions: Follow Elder David A. Bednar's counsel to stop asking "'What do I tell them?'" and instead ask "'What can I invite them to do?'" and "'What inspired questions can I ask?'"
- Invite the Holy Ghost: Formulate questions that, when students "are willing to respond, will begin to invite the Holy Ghost into their lives"
- Foster Independence: Encourage your students to "take responsibility for their learning" by inviting them to "ask their own questions, search for answers, ponder, and share or record their thoughts and feelings"
- Empower the Learner: Guide your class to "strengthen their faith, discover truths in God’s word, and have their own experiences," so that they can eventually declare like Joseph Smith, "I have learned for myself"
