After Dr. Michael Eric Dyson went viral again for criticizing Kendrick Lamar’s angle in the Drake beef, Punch responded on Twitter suggesting that Dr. Dyson may have taken Kendrick’s lyrics a little too personal.
In this video, we break down Dr. Dyson’s latest podcast appearance where he argues that Kendrick was trying to strip Drake of his blackness and simplify his identity. I react to multiple clips of Dr. Dyson speaking on the beef and give my take on where I think his criticism is coming from.
While I respect Dr. Michael Eric Dyson as a scholar and I respect Drake’s music, I still believe Kendrick had the better angle in the rap battle. At the end of the day, it was rap. Some of this feels like it’s being taken too literal.
